Goals & Objectives
Goal: Grow and Develop the African- American Sector of the Tourism Industry so that this engine becomes a catalyst for economic growth in underserved communities throughout the state of South Carolina.
Economic Impact Study- Developed in 2015 in partnership with the University of SC & JC & Associates, the study identifies the economic impact of African- American Tourism on the State’s economy & provides recommendations for its growth. The findings of this study must be made known to local governmental agencies as well as tourism stakeholders.
Tourism Promotion Program- Develop more avenues for marketing & promotion of African- American tourism sites, events, and businesses. Product Development- Development of more businesses, cultural events, and sites.
Funding & Investment- Lobby for more public investment from Federal, State, and Local Sources.
African- American Tourism Council- Grow the SCAATC into a 100+ member As Advocacy & Development organization with members from every region of South Carolina, both Urban & Rural.
Product Development- The objective is two- fold: The modernization of existing products, and the development of new tourism products throughout the state.

Highlights of the festival include workshops on resource development including access to capital & grants, marketing & tourism promotion, best practices, and product development ideas. The annual meeting of the SC African American Tourism Council to review & adjust goals & objects in growing this sector of the economy.
Gullah Culture should be synonymous with South Carolina like Creole and Cajun is to Louisiana. A branding campaign focusing on making this a reality will attract visitors. Our goal is to gradually build a successful African- American cultural tourism brand vital to South Carolina’s economy.
While Charleston is the most celebrated cultural destination in SC, other regions in the state will benefit from a destination branding of African- American cultural tourism that highlights their unique sites and experiences. From Greenville to Beaufort SC, the opportunity to grow our economy is tremendous.
